We started off the session today with a review of what we have learnt yesterday by using the Thinking Trade activity where each person writes down 5 ideas that they have about differentiation on 5 post-it notes. Subsequently we traded 3 of our ideas with other persons around the classroom and 2 which will be kept to ourselves. After trading, we compile the post-its and compile the keywords to use in creating the definition of differentiation.
After this review session, we learn about the tools and strategies used in differentiation.
A way of getting students to compile and anaylse information is by using the CORI method (collect, organize, represent and interpret). It was rather interesting as a set of questions were given in the beginning and everyone has to write down their answers in strips of paper. After sorting out everyone’s answers into different envelopes according to question numbers, every group is given one numbered envelope to sort out. We had to use a mathematical way to present the information that we found in the envelopes.
The answers that we got were for a question, “What is something about you that other’s do not know?”
We got all kinds of answers from everyone in the session. We tried to categorize the answers by ‘dislike’, ‘like’, ‘appearance’, ‘skills’, and even ‘do not want to reveal’.
From this session, we can see that every group has a unique way of presenting the data that they have.
In the following session, we had a silent reading session about conducting differentiation. Everyone were given articles and we had to create a graphic organizer based on our reading. Then we had a sharing session with each group member.
As part as one of the last learning session for the CPD, we were regrouped again according to our clock partners and discuss about the ways of differentiation according to content, process and product. My group was discussing about the ways of differentiation for content.
For the rest of the day, we had working sessions to revise our Unit 5 documentation according to what we have learnt since yesterday.
